Freewrite 10/19 Intertextuality
In Anime there are various pop culture references and Intertextuality of American culture. One of the first things to come to my mind is the anime Bungo Stray Dogs. The show itself has nothing to due with classic literature but various of the charters are named after famous writers. There's a detective named Edgar Allen Poe who write horror stories and Fyodor Dostoyevsky who himself is a troubled villain of the show. In no form does the show represent the writers themselves but instead takes a piece of them to create these odd characters that fit perfectly in the world. Various other animes do this same thing.
Full Metal alchemist is one purely based upon alchemy and the & deadly sins which in this show are monsters. They reference the original sins themselves as these humanoid people along with ideas such as elixir of life
Japanese movies also have these underlying references. The Studio Ghibli movie Graves of the Fireflies cover looks as though its just a brother carrying his sister in a field of fireflies when instead it is a reference to World War 2 and the bombing of Hiroshima.
